Nornickel plans to launch joint venture for copper mining
On the sidelines of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Congress held in Moscow last week, Nornickel’s President Vladimir Potanin informed journalists that agreements with Chinese partners to establish a joint venture for copper mining are expected to be finalized shortly.
Mr. Potanin noted that the process is underway, but discussing details would be premature. The company has secured government support for its strategic development concept, which includes cooperation with Chinese counterparts. He emphasized that concrete results on this matter will be announced in the near future.
Nornickel is Russia’s leading mining and metallurgical company, the world’s largest supplier of palladium and nickel, and a key producer of platinum and copper. Its primary production facilities are located in the Norilsk Industrial District, the Kola Peninsula, and Transbaikalia.
