Norilsk Nickel has accepted the unique tanker into operation

OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel, informed that today in Wismar, Germany the acceptance of the ice-class ARC7 Yenisey tanker took place, whose construction is carried out within the framework of the creation and development of company’s own arctic fleet.

Construction of an arctic tanker is an important step in expanding company’s freight traffic activity along the Northern Sea route. Its implementation will allow organizing a year-around supply of the Norilsk industrial area with petrochemical byproducts, as well as exporting to Europe of gas condensate developed by the company’s Pelyatkinsky gas condensate field.

The main technical specifications of the Yenisey are length: 169 m, width: 23,1 m, propelling power shaft: 13 000 kW, dead weight(DWT): approximately 15 k tons at 9,0 m with winter precipitation, and about 20 k tons at a summer draft of 10 ,0 m. Equipped with a propeller-type "Azipod", the tanker is capable to pass through the ice with thickness up to 1.5 m without being escorted by icebreakers (fully autonomous navigation). In addition, the ship can enter and carry out cargo handling operations in remote waters of the arctic and unequipped arctic port localities. This became a possibility, in particular due to the fore lateral thrusting propeller.

The ship-building project provided the fact that the ship conforms to all applicable international conventions and requirements of the two classification societies – Russian Sea Register of navigation and the Norwegian society Det Norske Veritas.

The tanker will proceed to the port of Murmansk, where it will pass all custom formalities and its registration. Afterwards, it will proceed to the port of Dudinka for the consignment loading of gas condensate appointed for shipment to port in Porvoo, Finland.
