Steelmakers of OMZ-Special Steels cast using siphon method the largest forging ingot weighing 124.2 tons
For the first time in Russia steelmakers of OMZ-Special Steels cast using siphon method the largest forging ingot weighing 124.2 tons.
Casting of steel with siphon method is to improve the quality and cost of the metal ingot by the form of a siphon ingot.
When pouring with siphon jet of metal enters the mold bottom through the duct system. This method has a more relaxed casting lifting of steel in the mold, which has a positive impact on the metal quality.
Also the high quality of the ingot’s surface is provided, the ingot comes more smooth, which greatly reduces the volume of subsequent machining.
An important advantage of the siphon method is the use of a reliable argon protection of the liquid metal from oxidation. It allows to give up the vacuum casting.
The first ingot cast by Izhorkiye zavody and is intended for the manufacture of the tube sheet.
