OMZ-Special Steels manufactures sheet products for Russian next gen icebreaker
OMZ-Special Steels, part of OMZ Group, manufactured sheet products from high strength steel AB2R. The products were approved by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and shipped to Far East Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair.
Rolled sheet was produced from ingots, casted by syphon method. The method is implemented to improve the surface quality of ingot metal and economy: ingots, produced with this method do not require stripping and cleaning.
Sheet products will be used in the construction of MPSV06 multi-head sea salvage vessel project - diesel-electric powered icebreaker with the capacity of 7MW. This salvage vessel has an unlimited navigation area, including the Northern Sea Route. It will be able to perform icebreaking operations in the port and harbor waters, as well as freezing non-arctic seas with ice thickness of up to 1.5 meters, to assist in extinguishing fires in offshore and onshore facilities, accessible from the sea, to carry out seabed observation and damaged objects at the depth of 1000 meters.
