NLMK Group completes notification procedures in accordance with Turkish laws

NLMK Group companies, Novolipetsk and Altai-Koks, have duly completed notification procedures in accordance with the newly adopted Turkish legislation on control over chemicals.

A notification file for the Group’s products, namely pig iron and ammonia sulfate, was prepared similar to European Union REACH regulations. All documentation was submitted to the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry in March 2011.

The filing has enabled NLMK Group companies to continue exporting its products to Turkey which provides for the largest export market for NLMK.

For reference:

In 2008 in order to harmonize the national laws controlling and managing hazardous chemicals with similar EU regulations, in particular, EU REACH Regulation no.1907/2006, Turkey adopted “Regulations on Inventory and Control of Chemicals”. Subject to that regulation, chemicals producers and importers are to notify Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the chemicals produced in Turkey or imported thereto in the amount exceeding 1 ton per year.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, Chemicals) is the Regulation of the European Parliament and EU Ministers Council on control of production, marketing and further use of chemicals in the EU, valid since June 1, 2007. REACH Regulation establishes rules covering all production stages, sales and further use of products from the point of view of their chemical composition, and mainly aims to minimize risks to human health and environment from use of different chemicals and compounds.
