The Kemerovo region administration board approved project on modernization of the OAO Koks coke-chemical plant
The Kemerovo region Administration Board has approved a project to modernize the OAO Koks coke-chemical plant. Presentely, OAO Koks has at its disposal coke-production capacities consisting of four coking batteries, two of which have been in operation for more than 30 years. Their useful lives are now approaching their end. According to the Managing Director of OAO Koks, Sergey Dyakov, shutting down these coking batteries for renovation will entail a drop not only in the volume of coke production, but also in tax contributions to government budgets at various levels. Therefore, the shareholders of OAO Koks decided to commission additional capacities to compensate for these losses at a rapid pace. Having studied best practices, it was decided to build a new byproduct-free furnace. As opposed to the classical method of coking, these furnaces produce only coke, steam and electric energy. Environmentally, the new technology is more advanced than the traditional technology. The Oblast Administration Board decided to support the project to modernize OAO Koks, included it in the program for priority investment projects in the Kemerov Oblast, and to engage Kuzbass-based small and medium businesses to help implement the project.
