Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant increases sales on the Russian market

Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, Russia’s largest producer of zinc and zinc alloys, is pleased to announce its production results for the three months, ended March 31, 2013.

Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant (CZP) produced 41,878 tonnes of salable SHG zinc and zinc based alloys in Q1 2013, an increase of 5% as compared to Q1 2012 (39,944 tonnes). 75.6% of metal was supplied to the domestic market (Q1 2012: 61.4%).

CZP’s affiliated company, Nova Zinc LLC, operator of Akzhal zinc and lead ore mine in Kazakhstan, produced 7,003 tonnes of zinc in zinc concentrate in Q1 2013, 16% less than in Q1 2012 (8,354 tonnes). Lead in lead concentrate production decreased by 35% to 1,004 tonnes (vs. 1,554 tonnes in Q1 2012). Decrease of production is temporary. It was due to planned reduction of ore mined for the priority of the stripping activities.

CZP’s subsidiary, The Brock Metal Company (the leading UK supplier of zinc die-casting alloys) sold 6,044 tonnes of zinc alloys in Q1 2013, a decrease by 22% as compared to Q1 2012 (7,735 tonnes).
