VIZ-Stal receives steam reforming equipment

VIZ-Stal has received equipment for the construction of a steam reforming facility that will replace the more expensive electrolysis method used during the process of electrical steel production.

The new facility will be used to produce hydrogen by reforming natural gas. Once it is launched, power consumption will be reduced 37 times compared to the current method, saving 86 million kWh/y.

This RUR1 billion project is being implemented alongside “Hydro-Chem” (USA) as part of the Company’s large-scale Technical Upgrade Programme. The project will be completed in 2013.

For reference:
VIZ-Stal LLC (an NLMK Group subsidiary) is a leading producer of cold-rolled electrical steel and the largest producer of GO steel in Russia. The Company is implementing a large-scale Technical Upgrade Programme to master the production of a new promising product, high permeability steel, and to give a competitive edge to its conventionally produced steel.
