Norilsk Nickel develops its port fleet

MMC Norilsk Nickel (“Norilsk Nickel” or the “Company”) informs that the construction of 1,110 t fuel bunkering vessel ordered by the Company was started by OJSC Krasnoyarsk Shipyards.

The construction will be carried out as part of the program aimed at the renewal of port fleet managed by the Polar Transport Branch of MMC Norilsk Nickel. By ordering the vessel at OJSC Krasnoyarsk Shipyards the Company increases the utilization rate of its production assets.

Along with shipbuilding, since 2010 OJSC Krasnoyarsk Shipyards has been manufacturing special-purpose containers for the Company, planning to continue this work in 2011.

Under the fleet renewal program, the construction of two tow boats will be launched this year: a maritime tow boat will be built by OJSC Leningrad Shipyards Pella, and river tow boat – by OJSC Nizhegorodsky Teplokhod Plant.

Implementation of Norilsk Nickel’s program envisaging the renewal of the Polar Transport Branch port fleet in cooperation with domestic shipyards corresponds to the general policy of the Russian government to expand the utilization of Russian shipbuilding facilities.
