Severstal resumes building of the second polymer coatings line

Cherepovets Still Mill incorporated in Severstal Russian Steel division has resumed carrying out a project on building of the second polymer coatings line. The estimated cost of the project reaches 3 billion rubles. A. Kruchinin, Head of Severstal Russian Steel division said that according to the plan the first coated coil would be produced on the new line in June 2011.
Building of the line began at the end of 2007, however due to the financial crisis the building was suspended in Autumn 2008. The project capacity of the line will reach 200 ths tons. Commissioning of the line will enable the company to raise output of steels with polymer coatings to 400 ths tpa. According to the plan, semiproduct stock will be supplied from the continuous galvanizing line reconstruction of which is planned to resume at Cherepovets Still Mill in December 2009 to raise high conversion products output. Reportedly, SMS Demag, Germany is supplying equipment for building of the second polymer coatings line. The company has also carried out basic as well as detailed engineering of the project.
